Holding All Things at Once

Holding All Things at Once

Some mornings begin before the sun has even risen. The world is quiet, yet the mind is already awake, carrying yesterday, wondering about tomorrow, and trying to make sense of all that life asks us to hold.

As I sat with the stillness this morning, I realised something. We are all carrying something. A diagnosis. A relationship. The absence of someone we love. A decision that feels impossible. A hope we are almost afraid to believe. A future we cannot yet see.

None of us walks through life without uncertainty. What struck me most wasn't the uncertainty itself, but the many paradoxes we carry within us.

The strength to walk alone, while quietly longing for someone to say, “I'll walk beside you.” The courage to face the truth, while grieving what that truth might change. The joy of being deeply loved, while still knowing that love cannot protect us from life's inevitable seasons.

We are rarely just one emotion. We can feel gratitude and grief in the same breath. Hope and fear can sit beside one another without cancelling each other out. Strength and vulnerability often share the same heartbeat.

For so much of my life, I believed I had to choose one feeling over another. That if I was grateful, I shouldn't feel sad. If I was strong, I shouldn't admit I was afraid.

But perhaps healing asks something entirely different of us. Perhaps healing is allowing the heart to become spacious enough to hold it all.

Grace is not found in having all the answers. Grace is found in meeting each moment as it arrives. Trusting that even in uncertainty, we are not asked to carry the whole journey today. Only this moment. Only this breath. Only this step.

Today, whatever you are carrying, may you meet yourself gently. May you remember that you do not have to deny your grief to embrace your joy. And you do not have to walk every part of the road alone.

Sometimes the greatest gift we can receive is not certainty. It is simply someone willing to walk beside us.
